Aztec Ruins, NM

Today we visited a 900 year old Pueblo Indian site - Aztec Ruins http://www.nps.gov/azru/index.htm.
Aztec Ruins is a misnomer, originally named for the mistaken belief that the Aztec Indian people lived here. However, the name has stuck, and the town it is situated in is also named Aztec. The ruins are a World Heritage Site and were certainly impressive. Once the entire site is excavated (if ever) it will certainly be a city of substantial size. The reconstructed Kiva was impressive, and we enjoyed wandering through the buildings.

Driving on, we crossed the border into Colorado, and further along crossed the Continental Divide. Tonight and tomorrow night we stay in Mesa Verde National Park camp ground  and tomorrow we go trail hiking and touring Mesa Verde. I am sure it will be magnificent. We are about 8000ft in elevation, and it is very dry.
