Kansas City/Independence

We began our day with an impromptu horse and wagon ride. We were walking down to the visitor centre in town, when we were offered a lift! We said yes, and then enjoyed a short ride into town. After making the error of calling the animals pulling the wagon 'horses', I was swiftly corrected and told they were Missouri Mules. Sheesh! They have heads like donkeys and bodies like horses - they smell the same!

At the visitor information centre, being sworn in as Junior Rangers for the Harry S Truman memorial.

Visiting the Truman home - he married into money, but then had to live with his wife's mother and her family ... the price you pay! Even when he was President he still copped stick from the Mother in Law!

The building is a church - a descendant church of Joseph Smith's  - a sister church to the better known Latter Day Saint church

Took a couple of buses to get into Kansas City proper yesterday. Wandered to the Coterie Theater www.coterietheatre.org and bought tickets for 'Once Upon a Matress' the real story of the Princess and the Pea. It was a fantastic theatre production and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.

Afterward we stopped by Science City and the kids ran wild through all the chilren's science exhibits and hands on learning centres. They particularly enjoyed digging up dinosaur fossils.

'I found the head!'

Being very cautious - didn't want to break a bone

Finding out which ball travels fastest, and for the longest time on different curvatures

At Union Station, Kansas City - it was quite a grand building, and surprisingly vacant at 6pm

Finally, being the good vegetarian family that we are, we headed for Jack Stack Barbeque restuarant (www.jackstackbbq.com) and given that we had not eaten since about 10am, had a lunch/dinner event that kept us satisfied until just now. Although the meat was good - the potato salad and corn & cheese bake were delicious - I no doubt tripled my caloric intake for the day consuming those alone.
Evening spent studying mathematics and English - late to bed because the girls just could not get their act together for schooling today ... oh well!
