U.S Space and Rocket Centre, Huntsville AL

http://rocketcenter.com/

We spent a slow paced day at the Space and Rocket Centre, adjacent to our RV park today. We all had a great time wandering through the exhibits, doing a little hands on stuff - Mars rover simulator, rock climbing, gravity simulators, and watching the IMAX film 'Hubble'. This is where Space Camp is held.

There was a particularly large exhibit devoted to Werner von Braun, a German rocket scientist, and aerospace engineer, responsible for the design and realisation of the V2 rocket during WWII. Whilst his greatest achievement was to lead the development of the Saturn V booster rocket that helped put man on the moon, his Nazi past was all but glossed over, and a great deal was made of his "moral decision" to surrender to the American troops (rather than the Russians) at the end of the war, to the point that it made one a trifle sick to hear/read any more about it.

Still - it was a great day out with the kids!
