Natchez to New Orleans

We spent the morning at Melrose Estate, Natchez - a grand antebellum home. http://www.nps.gov/natc/index.htm

We enjoyed wandering through the home - it was huge. The height of the ceilings alone gave it a sense of grandeur. The outside is in a state of renovation, but it was easy to imagine it in its hey-day.

Entering the estate - a beautifully tree lined drive

Rocking away on the porch

Note the large wooden punkah (fan) suspended over the dining room table. A long rope was attached to it and pulled by a slave to move it gently to keep the flies off the food and the guests.

My favourite room - the ladies parlour

The main house on the right, smaller slave quarters off to the left

thought it would be quicker to take a photo of the number than search for a pen :)

Louisiana bayou ...

and again ...
After a satisfying lunch, we headed to New Orleans, and are now staying in French Quarter RV Resort for the next four nights.http://www.fqrv.com/
